Agrimony Agrimony - Agrimonia Eupatoria

AGRIMONY THE GENTLE TONIC.

Use as a tea. It is a gentle conditioner for the digestive system and the liver. A cleansing herb, having been used for kidney stones and arthritis. Lovely looking plant with a spike of yellow flowers. Used since the 15th century in the battlefields to stop bleeding. Perennial that grows to 60cm. Available in 9cm Pots

Aloe Vera - Aloe Vera

ALOE VERA FOR BURNS.

With a multitude of medicinal uses, including sunburn and burn relief, cuts and abrasions. Looks good as an indoor pot plant, ready for instant use! The gel can be made into a vitamin and mineral packed juice. Lovely red flowers on long spikes in autumn. Teach the kids to break a leaf off and put the gel on insect bites. Perennial but does not like frost. Available in 9cm pots.

Angelica - Angelica archangelica

ANGELICA TO SOOTHE INDIGESTION.

Angelica can be used for taking the bitterness out of rhubarb and other fruits. Just put some pieces of stalk in while cooking. The stems are also candied to make lollies. Angelica also has many medicinal uses. A compress of fresh crushed leaves aids asthma and chest congestion, and angelica tea also aids indigestion. Dried leaves are good in pot pourri. Biennial. 1.5m. Usually in PB5's. Incompatible with Dill.

THE FEMALE GINSENG.

Also known as Dang Gui. Highly medicinal, traditional Chinese plant. Said to balance women's hormone levels, increasing or decreasing estrogen production in the body. Perennial, hardy and not frost tender. Likes dappled shade. Sometimes have very small stock available.

Anise - Pimpinella anisum

DIGESTIVE AID.

Use leaves & seeds. A useful tonic for the whole digestive system. Its antispasmodic & expectorant effects make it of value in the treatment of various respiratory problems. The seed is the part generally used, medicinally and to extract the essential oil. Chewing seeds after a meal aids in digestion. Seeds & plants in season.

Anise Hyssop - Agastache foeniculum

FOR COLDS AND FLU.

Attractive plant grows to 1m. Bright blue/purple flowers that attracts bees. Flowers are edible and the leaves make a refreshing tea, which is soothing for colds and flu. When cold assists in soothing a sore chest from coughing. Seeds can be used in cookies, cakes & muffins. Seeds.

EDIBLE DELICACY

Stunning plant growing to 1.5m with flowers that are edible prior to opening. Also a medicinal herb. Make this one a feature of your garden. If your don't eat the flower bud you will be rewarded with an enormous stunning mauve flower. 9cm Pots.

Artichoke Jerusalem - Helianthus tuberosus

HIGH IN IRON

Related to the sunflower and with lovely bright yellow flowers to match. Makes a spectacular border plant. The tubers can be eaten cooke, like potatoes or raw. They are a good source of carbohydrate. High in potassium & thiamine, artichokes are low fat & also feed the healthy bacteria (lactobacilli) in the intestinal tract.

Ashwagandha - Withania somnifera

INDIAN GINSENG.

Indian substitute for ginseng. A small tender perennial shrub of the Solanaceae family found in warm climates. Ashwagandha produces bright red berries in a little casing during Autumn. It is as important in Ayurvedic medicine as ginseng is in Chinese medicine. The herb is said to have a "horse-like" smell. 9cm Pots. Seeds. Dried root available periodically.

Astragalus Milk Vetch - Astragalus membranaceus

IMMUNE STIMULANT.

Also known as Huang Qi, it is one of the 50 fundamental herbs in Chinese herbalism. The root is used as a sweet tonic. It stimulates the immune system, lowers blood pressure & blood sugar levels. It has yellow flowers and grows to 60cm. Likes dry soil and lots of sun. A simply beautiful plant. One of the must have medicinal herbs. Available in 9cm Pots

Balm of Gilead - Cedronella canariensis

STRONG MASCULINE SCENT.

A perennial shrub, with very aromatic leaves. It is also known as the `Masculine' herb. Best planted in a place where is can be brushed against to release its distinctive scent. Grow to 1m x 1m with an attractive leaf and small pink flowers. Can be used for a tea, but may be an acquired taste. 9 cm Pots.

Bergamot Lemon - Monarda citriodora

SHOW OF FLOWERS
Has an attractive pink to purple flower. Extremely popular with the bees. Leaves can be used raw or cooked as flavorings. Cut lightly over a salad for a lemon flavor. Often start to flower late summer when other plants are at their end. In NZ climate can be biennial.

Betony - Stachys officinalis

CALMING HERB

Perennial, Pretty ground hugging little plant grows to 30cm with serrated leaves. A dainty pink flower forms on a spike. Well known in France as a herbal tea. Prefers semi shade. Betony is used as an astringent to treat diarrhea and as a gargle or tea for mouth and throat irritations. It has been used to treat anxiety and headaches. 9cm Pots.

Borage Borage - Borago officinalis

FOR THE BEES

Annual, that readily self-seeds, Known as the friendly herb. The flowers can be crystallized or frozen in ice cubes. Use small leaves in salads; they taste like cucumber. Try a tea made from borage and thyme leaves to soothe a cough. Good companion plant for strawberries. The bees love this plant.

Box Honeysuckle - Lonicera nitida

GREAT HEDGEING PLANT & FAST!

Perfect for hedging. Often used instead of buxus. It is very fast growing so you will get a nice hedge quite quickly. Produces small white flowers in summer, followed by blue berries which are popular with birds. No known medical or edible use but no known hazards either. Lovely evergreen perennial. 1.5m. Box Sempervirens - Buxus sempervirens

MADE FOR TOPARY

Very popular hedging plant. Makes a very tidy, small box hedge. It is slow growing and will take a few years to establish a hedge, but it's worth it for the tidy hedge you end up with. Frost hardy.
